When she is crooning, or will we say cooing, she will make some other singer feel about himself like a musical dilettante. Such is the genius of S Janaki, the gifted exponent of songs. As he turns 74 today (April 23), Janaki continues to urge joie de vivre in folks that take heed to her songs.
Having rendered thousands of songs in Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, Malayalam, Hindi and lots of other languages, Janaki is a proud recipient of 4 National Awards, 31 State film awards and countless other awards. Of course, for somebody like her who regards singing as a divine duty, like a karmayogin, awards don't matter much.
Janaki is understood for her devotional numbers in addition to. a devotee of Krishna and Sai Baba of Shirdi, she has left her indelible mark on singing plenty of immortal bhajans and hymns.
