Actor Boman Irani rues that celebrities aren't given enough credit for his or her efforts towards social causes even supposing they're always the primary ones to lend a helping hand.
"I think you do not give our celebrities enough credit. I FEEL there are only a few people in society who give their life and time to causes corresponding to this. Do you locate bankers or hoteliers sitting over here? They don't seem to be here. There are lots of celebrities who come for an even cause," he said.
"Whenever there's a catastrophe or a disaster, the primary individuals who pop out and lift funds can be people from the film industry. So, I BELIEVE it is a little unfair to knock my community down," he added.
The 52-year-old was talking at the sidelines of the launch of the book "UNLIKE Most Young Girls", a compilation of selected short stories concerning the plight of sex workers.
Meanwhile, Boman, who has done films like "Munnabhai M.B.B.S.", "3 Idiots" and "Well Done Abba" with social messages, believes it is very important induce a generous dose of entertainment right into a issue-based film to make it appealing to the audience.
"Entertainment is vital otherwise no person will watch it. If there's a film like '3 Idiots', the backbone of the film is the subject of education. But when we talk only about education without entertainment then no person will watch it," said Boman.
"The audience is getting the message anyway. It isn't possible to portray a book realistically in a movie because people watch movies to entertain their families. If we will give a message combined with entertainment, it's good but then it'll never be similar to the book," he added.
Boman's next release can be "Housefull 2" and he's also engaged on "Shirin Farhad Ki Nikal Padi" with Farah Khan, for which he even half-stripped.
