Saif Ali Khan on his arrest: They are lying about me

B-town actor-producer Saif Ali Khan has unfolded at the ugly incident at the wee hours of Wednesday. Saif has issued an official statement where he says he was hit and retaliated in self defense.

In the official statement received by IndiaGlitz, Saif says, "I USED TO BE hit and that i defended myself. I'VE BEEN to the police station to reply to the necessities of law as I'M a law abiding citizen. I'VE also filed a complaint about what happened last night and i'm confident justice can be done."

Saif was charged under various sections of the Indian Penal Code for allegedly assaulting South African businessman of Indian origin Iqbal Sharma and his father-in-law within the Taj Mahal Hotel around 1 a.m. on Wednesday.

Sharma is the Director General and CEO of the Trade, Industry and Investments of South Africa.

Saif Ali Khan was arrested yesterday evening with friends - producer Bilal Amrohi and actress Amrita Arora's husband Shakeel Ladak. They were formally arrested after which given bail on personal bonds of Rs.3, 000 each.

There was high drama for the arrest yesterday afternoon - police sent a team to Saif's house and after failing to find him there, had ordered him to seem before them as early as possible.

Saif was virtually declared 'wanted' when he went incommunicado after assaulting Sharma. The actor Police said a case of assault have been registered on the Colaba police station.

Saif in his official statement says, "I'VE seen the interviews given on TV they usually seem like decent people and that i cannot believe that the similar people were so aggressive the night before and the lies that they're saying about me with such straight faces."

He continued within the statement by saying, "I FEEL they have got the CCTV footage within the restaurant in order to prove everything, I'M HOPING the media is in a position to remain impartial while the problem is being decided. I DON'T BELIEVE any gentleman would have behaved differently."

On the opposite hand police also are questioning staff on the hotel and examining the CCTV footage.

Sharma maintains that Saif called him an "idiot" for complaining concerning the actor's loud conduct at a cafe within the Taj Mahal Hotel.

He said he and his family had requested the restaurant manager to invite Saif and his friends, which included Kareena Kapoor, Amrita Arora and Malaika Arora Khan, to maintain their voices down.

Sharma said he and his family decided to transport to a different a part of the restaurant downstairs.

"As we were happening the stairs, Saif was coming up, probably from the bathroom. As he passed me, he called me an idiot and asked 'Do who I am?'"

Sharma said the actor first pushed him after which assaulted his father-in-law who fell at the stairs and bruised his jaw.

"It was an uncivilized method to behave in a public space," Sharma said, adding that he intended to pursue the problem legally.

A police officer confirmed that Sharma and his guests had objected to the noise created by Saif and his friends.

Saif have been excited by public spats earlier too... Starting with the assault on gay activist Ashok Rao in 1990 for alleged unacceptable remarks on his mother Sharmila Tagore. In September 2008 he was involved with some photojournalists in Patiala.

Saif is accused of killing a blackbuck - an animal the Bishnois hold sacred in 1998. Saif was charged with poaching because the blackbuck is at the endangered list.

The members of the Bishnoi community were angry when Saif received the Padma Shri.

While the law takes its own course... Netizens are already calling the entire episode as a publicity stunt.
